After leaving Dr. Copeland’s employ, he worked for Bloodstock Research and Statistical Bureau where he furthered his knowledge of pedigree analysis and evaluation.

Mr. Owens, along with his brother were the leading agents consigning thoroughbreds at the Keeneland, Fasig-Tipton and Saratoga sales. During this time Mr. Owens was co-owner of Forest View, Grangeway and Houstondale Farms in Bourbon County, Kentucky, which specialized in the boarding and sales prep of some of the world’s finest thoroughbreds including LADY’S SECRET (Horse of the Year), and LIFE’S MAGIC (Champion).
